26 June - Cow Bail trail - Towamba Valley

Day event
Walk Coordinator: Jeff Vaughan - edit - now to be led by Jeff Holmes as Jeff Vaughan may be unable to walk due to a hip injury.
Meet: 9:00AM at Rocky Hall Fire station about 6.5 km from the The New Buildings
 road/Big Jack Mountain road intersection
Grade: Moderate/Hard
Distance: 20 km
Description: Up the Cow Bail Track to the old chimney remains (originally a
resting place for the Bullock teams that used this track). After that continue
to the top of Cow Bail then across to the Woolingubrah Inn for a lunch break.
This historic Inn was restored some years back. It is usually locked but it may
be possible to have it opened for inspection.

From there we can get down to the old Big Jack Mountain Rd (not the current
one)  which takes us back to the Towamba River thence back to the start of the
walk. Total distance would be about 20 km.

There are good views from the Cow Bail track of the upper Towamba River Valley
including the Coal Hole. Getting back down to the Old Big Jack Mountain Rd
takes us through private property.

Total climb up the Cow Bail is about 500m. The track climbs steadily along a
spur. It can be seen on the 1:25000 topo 'Coolumbooka'. The start is at about 198128 on this map.
