6 March to 11 March - Barrington Tops (week-long camp)

Base Camp
Walk Coordinators: Lyn Evans, Phillip Kendall and Tony Postlethwaite
Meet: PM/evening at Polblue Campground, Barrington Tops National Park
Grade: Easy/Moderate
Distance: Several day and shorter walks
Description: This is an extended camp in the Barrington Tops/Gloucester area
throughout the week (Monday to Friday). The park is about 800 km north, so will
require leaving on the Saturday and arriving at the camp on Sunday. How long
you stay and when you head back is up to you. There is lots to see and do.
Terrain: Walking trails and fire trails.
The walks will be mainly easy to moderate on tracks. The area has spectacular
scenery with sub-alpine peaks and valleys in the north, Antarctic Beech
forests, waterfalls and cascading rivers in the east and south. Access is
generally 2WD on unsealed roads but one walk will involve 4WD access, so high
clearance vehicles are preferred.
We intend to start in the north at a national park campground (pit toilets,
shelter with tables and gas bbqs), then move to a caravan park in Gloucester
and finish at a state forest camp in the south (minimal facilities).
Caravans/camper trailers are OK although some dirt roads will be encountered.
We will be doing day and half day or shorter walks and having at least two
nights at each camp. Opportunities in Gloucester for shopping, fuel, meals out
etc. No bookings are required at the caravan park for un-powered sites, but you
would need to book powered sites/cabins in advance.
Please let us know ASAP (philkendall@internode.on.net) if you are planning to
go and we add you to the email list for further details on how to get there,
details on the walks, etc.

THANKS Lyn and Phil!
